Glossary

We are sometimes using very specific vocabulary in our solutions… type any word or expression you want to better understand below

A
Application Event
Application events are data items linked to devices that can represent a wide range of generic events.
These events are specific to each project.

They can represent a STATE or a PUNCTUAL EVENT.
For punctual categories, multiple events of the same kind can occur successively, e.g. a SHOCK event just represents an event that happened and multiple same events can happen successively.
As opposed to events to that represent state changes e.g DOOR_CONTACT_ON/OFF.

We can non exhaustively list:
– DOOR OPEN / DOOR CLOSED
– TEMPERATURE_CONTROL_START / TEMPERATURE_CONTROL_STOP
– IBUTTON_TAG
– POWER SOURCE ON / OFF
– BACK_TO_WAREHOUSE

Application events can be used to:
– generate alerts
– display in application event report
– display information in several places of the web interface: trip overview / dispatching map
– define conditions for dynamic groups
– define states in the reporting usage

A whole range of application events can be reported depending on the available sensors and data in your project, for more details, please contact Ubidata.
C
CAN-bus
CAN (Control Area Network) allows communication between different systems (or electronic control units – ECUs) in the vehicle, without the need for complex wiring.
For example, the engine signals the vehicle’s speed to the gearbox, which in turn must tell the other modules when to change gear.
Connecting all these individual modules has become too complex, so a central network system has become necessary to manage the vehicle efficiently.

With the CAN bus, stations with the same rights (control units, sensors or actuators) are connected via a serial bus. The basic CAN protocol allows them to exchange 2048 variables. This protocol, as well as the electrical parameters of the transmission line, are defined by the 11898 standard. The physical transmission is carried out either by a twisted pair or by infrared, radio or fibre optic links.
Corridorfencing
A corridorfencing is a GFZ (geofencing zone) that follows a line (road, railway line). It allows the precise tracking of the route of a device or an entity by ensuring that it remains on a defined path.
D
Dynamic Groups (of devices)
A dynamic group is a set of devices that are dynamically associated on the basis of a series of criteria that the project administrator has previously defined. The composition of the group is therefore variable, depending on whether or not the devices meet the group selection criteria.
E
Entity
any asset that can be linked to a device (mobile device or telematic device)
F
FMS – CAN-bus
The Fleet Management System (FMS) is a standard interface for vehicle or commercial vehicle data.
FMS CAN-bus is the feedback of FMS data, combined with J1939 data, such as GPS position, tachograph data, readings from various sensors.
G
GFZ (Geofencing Zone)
A geofencing zone is an area of interest on the map (= a surface), surrounding a point of interest (P.O.I.). These areas can be visualized on maps, but also used in some reports.
Group (of devices)
A group is a set of devices grouped under the same name, which makes sense in your project. It is one of the administrators of your project who has the rights to create these. The devices are manually linked to the group through an administration page.
L
LBS
Services provided by Location Based Service (LBS) technology are called location-based services. They make use of the geographical position of a device on the operator’s network. The position is obtained by triangulating the signal of the device (telematics or mobile).

Location-Based Service is a tracking system that uses mobile phone signal. The tracking is done by using GSM cell towers of local mobile phone service providers. Tracking through LBS is less precise when compared to GPS because the device estimates its position in the area of the cell tower.
M
Mobile List
A Mobile List is used by the ubiSMART mobile application. It contains the different lists of messages that the mobile staff has to encode for a certain activity.
A translation table is provided when encoding the lists so that both the mobile staff and the ubiTT user can use the messages in their own language.
P
P.O.I. (Point of interest)
A P.O.I. is an address, a point on a map, with a name associated with it (depot, customer name, petrol pump name, branch name, supplier name, etc.). Not only can you make them appear on the map, but also in certain reports.
S
Status
The statutes are common to all projects and relate to the GPS positioning of devices installed in vehicles
devices installed in vehicles, whether they are telematics or mobile.
These statuses are represented on the map by a coloured triangle and are four in number:
– STOPPED: the vehicle is stationary
– DRIVING: the vehicle is in motion
– NO GPS: the device is communicating with the server, but is not receiving a GPS signal
– OFFLINE : the device does not communicate with the server
T
TARIC code
The TARIC code (Integrated Tariff of the European Communities) is the nomenclature of the integrated tariff in the European Community. It is a type of code that identifies the nature of the goods being shipped, and is only used within the EU.
The TARIC code is used within the EU to determine applicable duties and taxes.

The TARIC code provides information by numbering products and their nature. It is very useful for identifying goods and applying any restrictions or additional requirements for their entry into a given country.
As a standardized code, it is easy to read and understand by all European Union countries.
This considerably speeds up customs procedures and those linked to the transport of international goods.

Tachograph
The tachograph is an electronic device for recording speed, driving time and activities installed in a road transport vehicle.
W
Web Service
A web service is a computer interface protocol from the family of web technologies that enables communication and data exchange between heterogeneous applications and systems in distributed environments.
